Council chair Ros Moriarty has issued an urgent please explain after the decision to dump the successful coach was made without wider consultation.

Moriarty said: "The FFA Women's Council was not made aware of the intention to terminate Alen Stajcic's contract, and will request full details of how stakeholder surveys escalated to a sudden sacking.

"I would like to understand what specific feedback has left our national women's team in a World Cup year, without the leader who has orchestrated their success over the past few years."

Matildas boss sacked over 'culture' issues

The apparent snub comes just one month after the council set its charter to ensure equality in football for women and girls. Moriarty said the Matildas were at the "pinnacle of that charter".

"They are at the frontline of this decision, I would like to hear their reaction to the news" she added.

"The reality is that women's football in Australia is largely invisible, underfunded and secondary to the men's game on every level.

"The Council will be calling for a much deeper, evidence-based focus on these issues within FFA and right across the game."

The Women's Game understands that the lack of discussion with the Women's Council and other Members was for reasons of confidentiality .

Sources insist FFA Chair Chris Nikou spoke to Moriarty this morning and plans to meet with her for a more thorough briefing next week.
