The Western Sydney Wanderers’ unbeaten start to the season was today broken by Brisbane Roar, who put four goals past them at Marconi Stadium.

Allira Toby (50’, 71’), Hayley Raso (61’) and substitute Leah Davidson (68’) all hit the back of the net for the Roar, who came away with a 4-0 victory over the second-placed Western Sydney.

Brisbane now move into fourth on the ladder with Melbourne Victory close behind them.

Western Sydney Wanderers

 

Abigale Smith – 8

Was strong against Brisbane’s early aggressive attack, communicated well throughout the game to organise her side and distributed the ball well - got caught out a couple of times in the second half. 

 

Sam Staab – 7

Completed some perfectly timed challenges in defence and distributed the ball well through the midfield, a few balls beat her behind the defensive line.

 

Courtney Nevin – 7

Played some neat passes and moved the ball forward quickly, read her opposition players well although occasionally left them with too much time and space.

 

Denise O’Sullivan – 8

Was strong in the midfield and controlled the game, made some vital defensive decisions and pressed quickly for the whole match.

 

Amy Harrison – 6.5

A quieter game for her today, used her body well in tackles but had a few loose passes.

 

Erica Halloway – 6.5

Wasn’t as involved in the Wanderers attack today, made some good passes throughout the game.

 

Kyra Cooney-Cross – 7.5

Good footwork on the ball, had a few strong opportunities at goal after a quiet first half.

 

Cortnee Vine – 6.5

Worked hard up front making quick runs and moving around to look for the ball - had some poor touches but fashioned a few shots at goal.

 

Alexandra Huynh – 6

Made a few defensive mistakes, not at her best today – read the game well in patches.

 

Ella Mastrantonio – 7.5

Controlled the ball with quick touches and distributed well - used her body to protect the ball in defence and made some great tackles.

 

Kristin Hamilton – 7.5

Played some good crosses into the middle and showed off her sharp touches – had a few strong shots in the second half.

Caitlin Cooper – 6.5

Came on with 20 minutes to go, provided some fresh legs for the Wanderers. 

 

Vesna Milivojevic – 6.5

Played the last 20 minutes, worked hard to win the ball back.

 

Brisbane Roar

 

Mackenzie Arnold – 8

Made a number of good saves in succession at the beginning of the second half to deny the Wanderers, kept a clean sheet.

 

Carson Pickett – 7

Good touches on the ball and great passes into the area to set up Brisbane’s attack.

 

Celeste Boureille – 7

Defended well when she needed to, communicated well with her teammates.

 

Clare Polkinghorne – 7.5

Got her head on the end of a number of crosses and corners, was a brick wall in defence.

 

Elise Kellond-Knight – 8.5

Boosted Brisbane’s midfield in her first minutes on the park this season, creating more attacking chances and adding creative flair to the game.

 

Rylee Baisden – 6.5

Had some good touches on the ball but was a little quiet in today’s game by her standards.

Katrina Gorry – 8

Controlled the game from the middle, won a lot of loose ball and created a few attacking chances for herself and her teammates.

 

Allira Toby – 8.5 

Led an aggressive press which blocked Wanderers in their own half, a dangerous attacking player who scored the first and fourth goal of the game for Brisbane.

 

Hayley Raso – 8.5

Shot low and hard to score the second goal for Brisbane – worked hard to create attacking opportunities throughout the game, involved in a majority of Brisbane's build-up play.

 

Hollie Palmer – 7.5

Worked hard to press the Wanderers and win the ball back, did her defensive job efficiently.

 

Isobel Dalton – 7.5

Defended well out wide, pressed efficiently and kept her opposition attackers quiet.

Leah Davidson – 7.5 

Scored the third goal for Brisbane after getting onto the end of a good cross - her first goal in the W-League.

 

Anna Margraf – 6.5

Came on with just over 10 minutes remaining.
