Newcastle Jets have notched up their first win of the season after a hard fought 2-1 victory over Perth Glory on Saturday evening at Dorrien Gardens.

With both sides looking for their first win of the new campaign, it was the visitors from Newcastle who ended an 11-year hoodoo by registering their first ever win in Perth thanks to goals by Nikki Flannery and Tara Andrews.

Spanish international Celia scored on her debut for the home side to reduce the deficit and Eliza Campbell saved a late penalty from Andrews to keep her side in the contest, but a gusty defensive display from the Jets was enough to earn them all three points and leave last year's beaten Grand Finalists rooted to the foot of the table after four rounds.

Perth Glory

Eliza Campbell - 7

Could do little about either goal, and produced an excellent penalty save to deny Andrews with just under 10 minutes remaining.

Julia Sardo - 6

Tormented by Collister all evening and had an excellent chance to equalise in the 71st minute. Registered the most touches of any player on the park but struggled to influence the game.

Ari Romero - 7

Went about her work diligently and defended well throughout.

Natasha Rigby - 7

Threw her body into challenges and led by example, exactly what you expect from the skipper.

Jamie-Lee Gale - 6.5

Did well to keep Kingsley quiet but offered little going forward as Perth struggled to test the Jets for large periods of the match.

Celia Jimenez - 7.5

The new signing took a while to warm into the game but showed glimpses of the quality that has seen her represent Spain at the last two World Cups. Took her goal well, and was Perth's only threat going forward.

Shannon May - 6.5

Worked her socks off in the middle of the park but found the going tough against Wheeler and Copus-Brown.

Leticia McKenna - 6

The youngster showed promise early in the match, but faded as the match wore on and was rarely sighted before being replaced in the 66th minute.

Morgan Andrews - 6.5

The American looked good in patches, but also spent large periods of the game with minimal touches. If Perth are to improve, they need to increase the influence of their imports like Andrews.

Caitlin Doeglas - 6

Looked a threat in the opening half with her pace, but her threat diminished and she was subbed off before the hour mark.

Katarina Jukic - 6

Didn't register a single shot in 90 minutes. Endured a very frustrating evening.

SUBS

Crystal Thomas - 6.5

Given 30 minutes to impress on debut and showed a bit of spark, but ultimately failed to seriously test the likes of Davis and Brewer.

Hana Lowry - 6

The youngster was given the unenviable task of trying to change the game with 25 minutes remaining, but had very little impact. Her handball gifted the Jets the chance to wrap things up but Campbell denied Andrews from the spot.

Ayesha Norrie - 6

Given 15 minutes as the Glory chased an equaliser, but like the rest of her side, offered very little threat to the Jets.

Newcastle Jets

Claire Coelho - 6.5

A spectator for the majority of the match, will be disappointed to have been beaten by Celia's shot from a narrow angle.

Tessa Tamplin - 7

Industrious down the right hand side and welcomed the challenge of facing off against the quality of Celia.

Cassidy Davis - 8

A brilliant performance from the Newcastle stalwart as she kept the likes of Doeglas and Jukic in check and marshalled the troops superbly as the Jets held on for an important win.

Hannah Brewer - 7.5

Caught out of position for Celia's goal, but otherwise was in fine form keeping Perth's attackers at bay.

Gema Simon - 7.5

Her marauding run helped create the winner, but she also was caught out of position for Perth's goal.

Libby Copus-Brown - 7

Another industrious and destructive performance from the midfielder before going off injured in the 65th minute.

Clare Wheeler - 7.5

Another high octane performance from the busy midfielder. Stopped Perth from ever gaining control in the contest.

Tiegan Collister - 7.5

A keen runner and provided a superb cross for the opening goal. Gave Sardo headache as she produced 6 shots and 10 crosses as Newcastle's main attacking outlet.

Jenna Kingsley - 7

A quiet game for the winger as she spent more time performing her defensive duties as she was needed to help keep Celia under wraps. Should have doubled the lead in the 40th minute with a point blank header.

Nikki Flannery - 8

Buzzed about for 78 minutes and was constantly a threat for the visitors. Took her goal well to open the scoring, provided a pinpoint cross for Kingsley to head over, and should have had a second when she hit the post in the 75th minute.

Tara Andrews - 7.5

Scored in her sixth straight game against Perth. Her well taken goal proved to be the winner and she helped link up the play between midfield and attack, always looking to feed the likes of Flannery and Collister.

SUBS

Paige Kingston-Hogg - 7

Came on to replace Copus-Brown and did an good job in helping maintain control of the midfield as Perth continued to struggle to create chances.

Lauren Allan - 6.5

Made a few dangerous runs against a tiring Perth defence and helped her side hang on for the win.

Pana Petratos - N/A

Subbed on in injury time. Did well to get a touch before the game ended.
