A game that looked like all Sydney in the opening minutes soon turned into one of Melbourne Victory's best performances.

It was a match with gripping top four implications. Both of these teams are fighting for second place and even fighting to stay as one of the final four teams.

Melbourne Victory was looking to avenge their week one defeat to Sydney, when they lost by a surprising score of 3-0.

A commanding 3-1 win over Sydney today and finishing their season officially the second place team has to leave Melbourne Victory feeling confident and Sydney FC knowing they need more if these two teams meet again in the Final Series.

Sydney FC Ratings

Veronica Latsko - 6.5

As the centre forward, Latsko left more of the chances up to her wings and was pretty quiet all game. She picked up the tempo late in the game, but it was too little too late.

Princess IIbini- 7.5

Very active on the offensive end, but nothing to show for it. Ibini did have some passes to teammates who were unable to finish. With Ibini getting the start over Siemsen one would have expected more from Ibini in this match.

Sofia Huerta - 7

An overall quiet night for the forward. Huerta had a few chances, but with her best opportunity she rushed and looked almost surprised she was able to get such a good look at goal.

Taylor Ray - 6.5

The midfielders are the ones supposed to control the game, yet Ray only had 37 touches in the whole match. She was never able to assert herself into game and her team suffered because of it.

Amy Sayer - 8

One of the more active players in the game having the most shots on frame for Sydney with three. Sayer was constantly making runs and attacking the Victory defence, but like the majority of her teammates, nothing came from it.

Teresa Polias - 6

Did not look like her usual self at all. Sydney had plenty of chances especially in the beginning of the game and Polias was the one sending in the free kicks. However her free kicks were well off the mark and she had poor passing as well. Polias was subbed off in the 55th minute and it was deserved.

Lindsay Agnew- 7.5

Quite possibly the best chance for Sydney all game came from Agnew. She took on McCormick 1v1 and won the battle with great footwork, but could not connect in front of goal.

Alanna Kennedy- 7

A centre back on a team that concedes three goals is never an ideal game. Kennedy did clear out a lot of the chances from Victory, but was unable to do much on the three goals.

Ellie Brush - 7

The opening goal for Sydney is going to be debated about whether it deserves to be Jackson’s goal or an own goal from Brush. Regardless, the poor marking by Brush led to the goal and she had a pretty underwhelming performance overall.

Angelique Hristodoulou - 7

In the first goal she was the defender who got beat by Dowie that allowed the ball to be sent into the box. Not the defender's best game, but she was able to keep Dowie from scoring any goals.

Aubrey Bledsoe - 7

She had a few saves and all three goals Bledsoe could do nothing about them. Defence fell a part on the first and third goal and the second was an excellent shot by Jenkins.

SUBS

Remy Siemsen- 8

Came in with a chip on her shoulder wanting to look like the player who should have stayed in the starting lineup. Created some chances, looked like a spark for Sydney, just nothing on the statsheet to show for it.

Natalie Tobin- 8.5

A late sub in the game, but used her minutes wisely. Tobin had a cracking goal in the dying minutes of the game, that could prove to be crucial for goal differential.

Mackenzie Hawkesby- 7

Came on for 25 minutes of work. Did not have too much impact on the game, but did not slow down Sydney in any way either.

Melbourne Victory Ratings

Casey Dumont- 8

Was only called upon a handful of times, but was able to step up every time she was needed and except the great shot from Tobin in the last minutes of play.

Emily Menges - 7

Many of the chances that Sydney had came from giveaways from Victory. Menges committed many of the turnovers and was poor with her passing in the backline, but she was able to stop the attackers when they came her way.

Laura Brock - 8

Stabilized the backline and was able to be the calming force when it looked like Sydney had the advantage on the offensive end.

Jenna McCormick- 7.5

Gave up an early free kick that could have been a penalty and gave up another dangerous free kick later in the game. McCormick got beat quite a few times, but recovered nicely and was able to provide her team with some offensive chances.

Melina Ayres - 7

Had an impact on both sides of the pitch, was just overshadowed by better play from other teammates.

Haley Hanson 8

A pretty quiet night for Hanson, the middle of the pitch was dominated by Hanson and Jackson. Her counterpart Jackson was the one carrying most of the offensive load while Hanson was called into more of a defensive role.

Amy Jackson- 8

Got Melbourne Victory on the scoresheet first. Jackson started the offensive play and was rewarded by being the one who was able to finish it. She was also active on the offensive half all game.

Annalie Longo- 7.5

A part of the dominant Melbourne Victory midfield, but had the least amount of touches and least amount of impact between them all.

Angela Beard -8.5

A thorn in the side of Sydney all game. Beard was able to get forward and play in quality balls to her teammates. Beard was a pure midfielder in this game playing both sides of the ball.

Darian Jenkins - 9.5

Scored two goals for Victory, one of which she took on the entire Sydney defence. Played well the whole game and looked like the best player on the pitch with her constant pressure on the defence.

Natasha Dowie - 8

Dowie was the one who assisted the first goal, slipping in a pass right at the six yard box. She was unable to get a goal of her own. But she was active all game and pressured the Sydney defence all 90 minutes.

Not enough time in the game to make an impact.

Polly Duran -N/A

Entered the game too late to do too much for the team.
