Melbourne Victory take the three points in their first home win of the season against the Newcastle Jets.
Round Eight saw Melbourne Victory triumph over the Newcastle Jets thanks to a Natasha Dowie header and a tap in from Darian Jenkins.
This 2-1 win for the Victory moves them up to fourth on the ladder, whilst Newcastle Jets remain in seventh spot.
The game was flooded with cheap turnover and players giving away possession, which hurt both teams at various points throughout the match.

Collected crosses easily, made a strong save late in the first half - didn’t have to be too involved in today’s match.
Emily Menges – 6.5
Good defensive positioning and cleared the ball well, played some loose passes.
Angela Beard – 6.5
Defended well against Flannery but had a few loose passes that gave away possession cheaply.
Jenna McCormick – 7
Kept the ball and controlled the game from the back, although gave away possession a few times throughout the game.
Haley Hanson – 7
Great anticipation up front, almost scored from a diving header towards the end of the first half – made space for herself with quick dribbling.
Amy Jackson – 6.5
Had a quiet game for her standards, played a few good balls from the midfield.
Annalie Longo – 6.5
A few mis-passes but created some good opportunities for Melbourne.
Lia Privitelli – 6.5
Had a few strikes at goal but sent one wide and the other straight at the keeper – might have benefitted from making more narrow runs before shooting, played a couple of good crosses into the middle.
Rosie Sutton – 7
Defended well, pressed the Jets attackers and extinguished chances with perfectly timed tackles.
Natasha Dowie – 8.5
Scored the first goal for Melbourne from a header - was strong on the ball and created numerous chances.
Darian Jenkins – 8.5
Great crosses from out wide, got a touch on the ball to score Victory’s second goal – worked hard defensively too.
Substitutes
Melina Ayres. - 6.5
Replaced Privitelli with 30 minutes to go, made some good runs and created attacking opportunities for her side.
Grace Maher – 6.5
Tried to chip the keeper towards the end of the match, added some energy to the game.

Claire Coelho – 7
Had a relatively quiet game - made a great save in the first half and denied a one v one opportunity in the second half after a soft back pass.

Good defensive positioning, threw her body behind the ball and tried to play forward.
Gema Simon – 7.5
Scored the Jets goal after chasing up the ball in space and finishing nicely – played well defensively and created options up front.
Tessa Tamplin – 7.5
Made some good runs up the line and created attacking opportunities - was involved in quite a few good defensive tackles.
Cassidy Davis – 7
Played some nice balls from the back into wide areas and into the midfield, some passes didn’t stick, and possession was lost.
Libby Copus-Brown - 7
Some great switches across the park but also a few loose passes resulting in lost possession.
Panagiota Petratos - 7
Great switch of play in the first half that led to a chance for the Jets, good vision and through balls in the midfield, a couple of miscued passes.
Clare Wheeler – 8.5
Busy in the midfield and involved in many passages of play, did well to keep the ball comfortably and looked to play forward quickly.
Tara Andrews – 8
Won a lot of ball in the midfield and held the ball up nicely – was able to play some lovely through balls to set up attacking chances for her side, also defended well when Newcastle needed her to.
Jenna Kingsley – 7
Provided a creative flair up front, worked hard throughout the 70 minutes she was on the park.
Nikki Flannery – 6.5
Didn’t see too much of the ball in the first half, made a few god runs but was closed down by Victory’s defence.

Played the last 15 minutes, made some positive forward passes.

Came off the bench returning from injury – used her speed and physicality on the wing, made a positive impact on the game.
