Emily van Egmond broke the stalemate on the 21st minute, but it was one way traffic for the entire match.

Claire Emslie added another two either side of half-time, before Kyah Simon jumped on the scoresheet with a tap in to make it 4-0.

It all adds up to City equalling the all-time highest Derby win. The last time they did that, they were Champions. No prizes for guessing who the favourites are this year...

MELBOURNE VICTORY RATINGS

Casey Dumont - 5

Hard to say it, but one of the usually excellent Dumont's worst matches in recent memory. Her defence were doing little to help her, but she just couldn't make anything stick tonight.

Jenna McCormick - 5

You could say all the Big V's defenders were worse than usual, but it was particularly emphatic with Matildas sensation McCormick, who was humiliated on multiple occasions.

A little worrying how easily Emily van Egmond and Steph Catley strode through on her flank. Withdrawn on the 65th minute.

Laura Brock - 6.5

Won a lot of one-on-ones and certainly showed that steely international pedigree she boasts.

But a couple of strange decisions - combined with the general defensive inertia that plagued her team tonight - made it one to forget.

Emily Menges - 5.5

The left flank was no nicer for Victory, with Ellie Carpenter and co running rampant. Unfortunately, Menges couldn't work her way into the game and fouled regularly.

She did restore some confidence towards the end however, with two really key back-tracking challenges.

Darian Jenkins - 6.5

She ran her socks off but for little result. Constantly getting in dangerous positions through her own precocious work rate, but couldn't match City when she got there.

Hayley Hanson - 6

Defensively suspect, but one of the better attacking Victory players today, able to hold and distribute play in the midfield and even launch a run or two early.

Amy Jackson - 5.5

A night to forget for Jackson, nothing paid off and she was one of the first off the pitch.

Angie Beard - 7

She never stopped running, bombing down that left flank to little or no avail. It got a little easier when Carpenter was withdrawn and she finished the match impressively.

She almost tucked one in through Lydia Williams mishandling a cross, but no such luck.

Annalie Longo - 6

While generally outplayed, like all Victory players, Longo did have her moments.

Her biggest problem was she outpaced by every City player on the park, making her look a little worse than she probably was.

Rosie Sutton - 5

Unfortunately anonymous with little service to write home about, another early withdrawal.

Natasha Dowie - 6.5

Dowie plugged away relentlessly, especially in that first half where she attempted to carve opportunities out of nothing. Still, not quite at her best.

She was isolated, meaning she constantly faced off against a double-team, and couldn't create much that was tangible as a result.

SUBS

Teigen Allen - 5

Couple of scrappy fouls and not a lot else to say.

Grace Maher - 5.5

Far from her best, she looked stagnant and lost the ball in some dangerous positions. Coming into this match in the position she did was a baptism of fire, but she did steady as the match wore on.

Melina Ayres - 6.5

Famed for her defensive work, this afternoon was no different. A couple of nifty passes through to Dowie but barely touched the ball in the final third...it was that sort of night.

MELBOURNE CITY RATINGS

Lydia Williams - 6

A few pretty dicey moments this afternoon, very strange for a goalkeeper that hasn't conceded in the W-League for as long as she has.

Rebekah Stott - 8

Brilliant defensive performance, living up to her calls mid week that City had to step up the dominance. Led from the back with aplomb.

Emma Checker - 8

Similarly composed, combative: general all around excellence from the former Adelaide skipper.

Lauren Barnes - 8.5

Sensational, especially in her ability to cut past opponents and bomb forward in the appropriate moments.

Ellie Carpenter - 8.5

Withdrawn early, which we can assume was because she'd effectively already won the match. One of the best on the park for the 55-odd minutes we were graced with her presence.

Yukari Kinga - 9

She is so close to faultless. Every pass, bang on target. Watch the replays of City's goals throughout this season and more often than not, Kinga will be involved there somewhere.

Aivi Luik - 8.5

She looks really comfortable and despite playing at a slightly slower tempo to many of her teammates, is virtually impossible to dispossess.

Steph Catley - 9

Her combinations with Emily van Egmond were nothing short of a masterclass. A level above Victory player, especially in that first half.

Emily van Egmond - 9

Watch her smouldering chip again. That sums it all up.

Claire Emslie - 8

She missed a couple of relatively straight forward chances in the first half and also failed to get on the end of a few key crosses. She also scored a brace so...we're not sure if an eight is harsh.

Kyah Simon - 7.5

Scraped a tap-in but not her best performance tonight, her headers were a little off the mark.

SUBS

Tyla Jay Vlajnic - 7

Really active after coming on, constantly demanding the ball.

Milica Mijatovic - 8

The fact City could be that dominant without Mijatovic on the pitch - she was dominant from the second she entered - sums it up as well.

Ally Watt - 8

Fantastic performance, did just about everything right.
