It's becoming tense at the top! City dominate yet another game, this time beating Canberra United 4-0 at ABD Stadium.
Melbourne City claimed all three points once again, beating Canberra United 4-0 to start off Round Nine.
Kyah Simon had her name on the score sheet twice, with Claire Emslie and Emily van Egmond both finding the back of the net.
Melbourne have now played over 400 minutes of football without conceding a goal. Their consistency has them placed outright first on the table, with Canberra in sixth spot following their latest defeat.
Melbourne City
Lydia Williams – 7
Made a great save mid-way through the first half against Charley but didn’t have too much to do in tonight’s match.
Stephanie Catley – 7.5
Beat her defenders nicely and had some quality chances on goal.
Rebekah Stott – 8
Stott was patient on the ball, playing backwards when she had no options and going forwards where possible, her passes often hit their mark.
Emma Checker – 6.5
A quieter game than usual tonight, made some good passes in the middle.
Ellie Carpenter – 7.5
Created a few opportunities for herself and her teammates from quick runs up the line and good crosses from wide areas.
Lauren Barnes – 7.5
Defended well against the speed of Charley, dribbled into the midfield to play the ball forward nicely.
Aivi Luik – 8
Defended well, screened the defensive line and broke down Canberra’s build-up play in the midfield.
Emily van Egmond – 7.5
Scored a beautiful volley in the 76th minute to score City’s fourth goal but held onto the ball for too long in the first half and made a few poor choices in build-up.
Claire Emslie – 9
Scored from a penalty after being taken out by Khamis, worked hard and had a number of touches on the ball and chances up front.
Kyah Simon – 8.5
Scored the first goal of the match from a sweet left-footed strike and created a multitude of chances for her side, one of City’s best on park tonight.
Milica Mijatovic – 7
Didn’t have the ball as much as other games this season, good in some patches but a quieter game for her today.
Substitutes
Rhali Dobson - 7
Replaced Kyah Simon with 20 minutes to go, used her pace well.
Tyla-Jay Vlajnic - 6.5

Canberra United
Sham Khamis – 6.5

Nikola Orgill – 6.5
A little slow to shut down the ball and played a few over hit passes.
Lauren Keir – 7
Made a few vital defensive decisions but overall found it difficult to defend against Melbourne.
Laura Hughes – 6.5
Played a few poor passes in midfield, a little quiet in tonight's game.
Olivia Price – 7
Found it difficult to keep the ball in the midfield, played a few good switch passes in the first half.
Camila – 6.5
Wasn’t able to execute her usual free flowing style of play, seemed a little slow to the ball and didn’t fashion many chances for Canberra today.
Karly Roestbakken – 6.5
A few stray passes and some loose defending throughout the match, not her usual consistent quality in defence.
Simone Charley – 8
Used her pace and created a few attacking chances, looked most likely to score for Canberra.
Elise Thorsnes – 7
The striker wasn’t able to create as many attacking opportunities as normal against a tight Melbourne defence, didn’t see much of the ball today.
Leena Khamis – 6.5
Let the ball get away from her up front and fouled City’s players in a few instances, didn’t add the attacking flair to this game that she usually possesses.
Substitutes
Rebekah Horsey - 7
Came on at half time, worked hard but for little reward.
Ashlie Crofts – 6.5
Played the last 25 minutes of the match.
