Both goals were scored in the second half, with Aivi Luik breaking the deadlock on 66 minutes before Jessica Fishlock sealed the result six minutes later.

For the second time City have come from fourth place to earn a spot in the decider.

The game was played in hot conditions at Perry Park in front of a crowd of 3,870.

In all, there were12 Matildas on the pitch, two of them the goalkeepers Lydia Williams and Mackenzie Arnold. 

Both custodians had notched up the most clean sheets in the competition, so it was always going to be the battle of the keepers.

The home side had a good penalty shout in the first half after Hayley Raso appeared to be taken down by Luik.

 

The second half started much like the first, with both teams trying to break down the opposition's defence. 

City had yet to score against Roar this season but that was about the change when Luik's shot hit Roar captain Clare Polkinghorne and deflected wickedly into the net.

Fishlock then took advantage of Arnold off her line to double City's advantage. 

Roar continued to fight and push for a goal but City held on. It was a bitter outcome for the Queenslanders who came from seventh last season to fight their way to the top of the table. 

City will now face Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium next Sunday at 5pm (AEDT).
