See how the Matildas rated in their 1-0 win over Chile in game two of the series.
The Matildas dominated in the first half and probably should have been up by more. The second half was much the same, even though they tired out.
A very solid performance from the team and Ante Milicic will be happy they could close out the game like they did on Saturday.
Ultimately, a solid two game spell for Australia.
MATILDAS RATINGS
Lydia Williams - 7
Didn’t have much to do in the first half, but offered a key save in the 58th minute thanks to some good positioning.
Ellie Carpenter – 9
Plenty of neat footwork. Carpenter is all class in attack and showed it again tonight. Tonight her defence was solid as well, should silence her critics in that department.
Fantastic first half. Kept working hard throughout the game.
Clare Polkinghorne – 6.5
Solid defending. Bravely through her body in as always.
A few poor touches but otherwise a reliable game from the stout defender. Substituted after the first half to give local girl Jenna McCormick a chance.
Alanna Kennedy - 7
Good performance from the veteran. Used all 83 games of her experience. The Matildas always look more solid with her despite a few sloppy moments tonight.
Limped off in the 76th minute after a good shift.
Steph Catley - 8
Looked classy and did her job. A reliable player and Ante Milicic must love her as he knows what he will get. Beautiful ball early in the second half to pick out Sam Kerr who hit the post.
Kept on coming in the second half and was always a threat.
Chloe Logarzo – 6.5
Enigmatic performance from the fiery midfielder. Not her best game but not her worst. Ill disciplined at times. Passing was hot and cold. Plays on emotion and occasionally it got the better of her tonight. But gotta love the passion. Second half was much better.
Tameka Yallop – 6.5
Looked good at times. Some nice touches and interceptions. Tired out a bit in the second half which led to some sloppy touches.
Subbed off in the 75th minute but a decent performance.
Amy Harrison - 7
Looked creative and determined. Plenty of class from the new Wanderers signing.
Substituted after 65 minutes after putting in a solid shift.
Emily Gielnik - 8
A beautiful finish to beat the Chile keeper Natalia Campos at her near post in the 22nd minute. Before that it was a powerful and brilliant run to get herself into position.
Also set up Carpenter three minutes later with a neat one two. Delivered plenty of run and dangerous balls into the box, clever balls to get past and over opponent.
Also worked hard in defence. Substituted in the 62nd minute but did her job very well.
Caitlin Foord - 8
Always involved in the game especially in attack. Nice ball to Kerr which led to the penalty in the first half.
Looked threatening and was a nice link up player to the Matildas forwards. A very solid game from the classy and reliable midfielder.
Sam Kerr - 7
We know how Kerr can score goals…but how about the neat assist to Gielnik? All class!
Used her experience to win a penalty right before halftime after cleverly dinking the ball away from Campos and drawing the foul. However she missed the penalty after an excellent save from Campos, bringing back bad memories from the World Cup.
Hit the cross bar in the 48th minute after receiving a great ball from Catley.
SUBS
Jenna McCormick -6.5
Came on in the second half much to the delight of her home crowd. Did her job in defence and looked solid throughout.
Lucky not to be booked for an attempted hip and shoulder in the Chile box but her physicality is one of her strengths.
Hayley Raso - 6
62nd minute sub, did a good job with limited game time.
Emily van Egmond – 6
65th minute sub. She was involved when she came on but with only a quarter of the game to make an impact, she didn’t have much opportunity.
Aivi Luik - 6
75th minute sub.
Nice passes which are her strength but had little time to do a lot.
Emma Checker - 6
76th minute sub. Didn’t have much time to make an impact.
