It is the second consecutive time Australia has reached for the World Cup qualification tournament.

Both teams came into the match with a win under their belts, for Australia, they took a 3-0 victory over Iran while Vietnam put just one goal past hosts Laos.

Vietnam put the Junior Matildas under pressure early with a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box.

It was a relatively even first half but it was Australia who had the better of the opportunities, coming close to finding the back of the net a number of times.

Vu Thi Hoa was immense for Vietnam throughout the first half with her lightning runs with the ball.

Australia tried to catch the Vietnam defence on the counter-attack with a lobbing overhead ball, but each time the ball would be faster than the player. They changed tact to use the pace of their forwards to bare down the defence.

The Junior Matildas were able to continuously dispossess to stop any momentum they had going forward and this would continue for the rest of the match.

The second half saw Australia trying to break the deadlock while Vietnam's forwards struggled to find a breakthrough in the Junior Matildas backline.

After 88 minutes, the Junior Matildas finally broke the deadlock through Jordan Jasnos.

Australia will face Laos on March 7 at 6:30pm local (10:30pm AEDT) in the last game of the second round of qualifiers.
