New Jets recruit Larissa Crummer will be hoping Newcastle can provide her with a fresh start as she looks to relaunch herself in the Hunter.
Still only 22 years old, the Jets will become Crummer’s 4th W-League club after stints with Sydney FC, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City, and she is looking forward to the switch.
“I’m really excited to work with Newcastle,” said Crummer.
“I’ve heard a lot of great things about Deansy [Jets coach Craig Deans]. I’m excited to work with him and he can help my game and help me grow a lot as a player.
“Newcastle have always been a great team and I’m really looking forward to a great season in Newcastle, and I don’t see why they can’t win this league.”
The change of scenery will also be accompanied by a change of position as Crummer will begin this season in the heart of the Jets backline, a change she is looking forward to, having learned from the likes of Alanna Kennedy and Clare Polkinghorne during her recent Tournament of Nations campaign with the Matildas.
“I think the change is going to help me grow as a person and as a player,” she said.
“It’s different. I’ve adapted quite well. From my time in the number nine, I’m able to understand the runs of strikers, but there are a lot of areas that I definitely need to work on and grow.
“If I can keep learning and growing with Newcastle then that’s also something that I can bring to the National side.”
After a disappointing 2017/18 season which was plagued by injuries and saw her waived by Seattle Reign FC, the former W-League Young Player of the Year has high hopes in Newcastle and the Jets will hope Crummer and her Matildas teammate Emily Van Egmond can help the Jets do even better than last year’s top four finish.
