Star Queensland Firebirds goal attack Gretel Bueta and her husband Niko announced that they are expecting their first child in January, ruling Bueta out of the upcoming season.
The firebirds may be without Bueta on the court, but she will take up an important off-court role in 2020.
Bueta (nee Tippet) told Firebirds media that “we are over the moon, I’m really looking forward to my new role, mentoring the young goal attacks coming through...I’ll be Roses' third set of eyes”
The news comes after a stunning 12 months for the Bueta, after she was crowned the 2019 Liz Ellis Diamond winner and played an important role in the Diamonds' Constellation Cup win.
The Firebirds are expected to announce Bueta’s replacement in the line-up over the coming days.
