The Emu Park Rugby League Club has started a Go Fund Me page for injured Indigenous NRL AllStar Samartha Leisha.
Leisha, who is a single mum of five, was playing in the opening minutes of a match against Norths Chargers when she was involved in a tackle that went wrong.
The Queensland representative player sustained a fractured vertebrae after she came down on her head.
"It was just a tackle and it just went wrong,” Emu Park women's coach and club president Jason Field told The Morning Bulletin.
"Unfortunately her jersey was pulled over her head and her head was in the wrong position."
Currently, Leisha is at Woorabinda hospital waiting to hear from a specialist who is in Brisbane as to whether or not she will need surgery.
She wanted to stay close to her children and family at this time with a long recovery road expected.
However, there is a chance Leisha may never be able to play rugby league again.
The Rockhampton-based clubs treasurer Leanna Field-Hamson created the page for Leisha with a goal to raise $5000. As of Thursday 2pm a total of $790 has been raised.
The Emu Park Rugby League Club will undertake a BBQ fundraiser on April 14 with all proceeds going to Leisha's recovery efforts.
