Leena Khamis joins Canberra after successful spells at Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 25-cap Matilda brings a wealth of experience into the Canberra side, lining up alongside Elise Thorsnes in the most seasoned strike force in the competition.

“This will be my 12th season in the Westfield W-League, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play with a new team in a new environment,” Khamis said.

The veteran striker will also reunite with sister and current Canberra United goalkeeper Sham Khamis, after the pair spent several seasons together at Sydney FC.

“I love playing alongside Sham, it will be a special moment for our family seeing us reunite again,” Khamis said.

“We’ve played with each other for many years and we really push each other in training. She definitely tries extra hard when I attempt to score against her and I definitely make it known when she lets one in.”

“I cannot speak highly enough of Leena as a player and a person,” Heather Garriock said.

“She will bring a great amount of experience, drive and accountability to the squad and I’m so pleased she will be in green this season alongside sister Sham.”
