Roar went into the game needing a draw or more to secure the Premiership while Canberra knew their season was over.

Both teams had nothing to lose.

It wasn't the tight affair fans were used to seeing between these two rivals, in fact, the earlier game this season only saw Roar win 1-0.

However, Roar came out and dominated from their first pass while Canberra struggled to get into the rhythm of the game which ultimately been the story of their season and hurt them in the end.

Roar looked dangerous on the attack as Hayley Raso and Emily Gielnik maned both the wings and beat the Canberra defence continuously with their speed.

Roar were rewarded for their tireless efforts as Raso opened the scoring after a Canberra player didn't clear the ball properly in the box.

After the goal Roar continued in their dominant possession but couldn't capitalise on their chances, a bit of a story this season, but Canberra strung some good spells together down Ellie Carpenter's side.

However, Canberra couldn't stop the onslaught of attack from Roar and were once again punished as Gielnik found the back of the net for the second week in a row before the halftime break after Carson Pickett put in another perfect delivery.

After the break, Roar didn't let up as Sydney FC were up 4-0 against the Western Sydney Wanderers in their match, so if Roar took their foot off the pedal, Canberra could have found their way back into the game.

So Roar coach Mel Andreatta made the decision to introduce former SWQ Thunder star Abbey Lloyd into the game.

Not even on for three minutes and Lloyd picked up on a defensive mishap from Canberra to score but Canberra re-grouped quickly and hit back with a volley from Elise Throsens.

But for Roar, it wasn't over to that whistle was blown by referee Lara Lee, so they continued to pile on the pressure and Lloyd found the back of the net again.

It all but sealed Roar the Premiership and a home semi-final against Melbourne City.

Andreatta said her team were happy and positive about winning the Premiership.

"It was tough, Canberra are always competitive and were again," she said.

"However, I think the games leading up to today helped us for an opponent like that.

"The girls dug in, scored lots of goals and defended well too so it gives us great confidence going into next weeks game," Andreatta said.

The semi-final next Sunday will be an interesting one giving the two teams history.

The last time the two sides played each other in a semi-final, Melbourne went through after an excruciating penalty shootout but this season Melbourne has yet to score against Roar.
