The Wanderwomen showed they are the real deal. The three amigos rode into town and took over, the Maestro played her tune, the youngster came of age. Get excited Wanderers fans.
Brisbane Roar
Mackenzie Arnold (gk) – 6.5/10
Couldn’t do much about the first and second goals. The third one was a bullet that went through her hands. Nice saves off Williams kept the scoreline from blowing out.
Carson Pickett -7.5/10
Pickpocketed Halloway early in the second half to set up her teams opening goal. One of her teams best. Can always expect an honest performance from Pickett and she gave that tonight.
Celeste Boureille
Tried her best but like most of her team mates was just swamped with pressure. Plenty of touches but couldn’t do much to help her team avoid defeat.
Clare Polkinghorne – 7.5/10
Lots of involvement as always but couldn’t do much to help her team against a Wanderers team that was possessed.
Indiah-Paige Riley – 7/10
Very involved in the game for the most part. Came off in the 65th minute.
Rylee Baisden – 7.5/10
Very busy especially early. Set up some nice chances for herself and team mates.
Deserved her second half goal.
Katrina Gorry – 7/10
Went hard all night as always.
Natalie Tathem – 5/10
Probably felt like she was surfing a tsunami with the way the Wanderers kept attacking her flank. Got caught out a few times and turned over the ball a bit too much. Didn’t have her best night.
Tameka Yallop – 6/10
Busy as always. Got into a few dangerous positions but couldn’t find the net.
Claire Farrington – 6/10
Subbed after the first half. Had a good first half with some nice touches and decent pass accuracy. Still needs time to develop.
Hayley Raso – 6/10
Lots of touches but not clean with the ball.
Allira Toby – 6/10
Came on in 65th minute and got involved but didn’t have a chance to do a whole lot.
Hollie Palmer – 6.5/10
Lots of touches but couldn’t do much to help her team against a Wanderers onslaught.
Isobel Dalton – 6/10
Didn’t have a chance to do much.
Western Sydney Wanderers
Abigail Smith (gk) – 8/10
Nice save to deny Carson Pickett in the opening minute. Another save in the 7th minute off Yallop. Also made some late saves as the Roar came hard towards the end.
Knew where her goals were and looked pretty safe.
The Wanderers are the complete package with Smith in the last line.
Sam Staab – 8/10
Outmuscled her opponents. Wasn’t afraid to put her body in all night.
Set up the second goal for Hamilton with one of her trademark long throw ins.
Courtney Nevin – 9/10
Outstanding game from the youngster in defence and in attack.
Just keeps fighting. Even when she is beaten she will keep coming. Set up some dangerous moments with some big contest wins in the middle. Ran hard along the wing all night. A tireless player whom the coach and her team mates would absolutely love.
Denise O’Sullivan -8/10
The three Amigos: O’Sullivan, Williams and Hamilton – just brilliant.
Plenty of neat footskill from the Irish lady, provided the link out of defence to the attacking third. Gotta love her endeavour.
Amy Harrison – 7/10
Good game but when Williams and Hamilton were in the mood they were tonight, she just enjoyed the ride. Some hard tackles made sure she was noticed.
Erica Halloway – 6/10
Horror moment in the 53rd minute to turn over the ball which led to the Roar’s opening goal.
She didn’t let it get her down though and kept running all game.
Fought hard all night, not doubt inspired by her team mates.
Lynn Williams – 9/10
Set up Hamilton with a neat run and wicked cross in the 10th minute. Set up the second goal with a nice flick on. Almost has telepathic communication with Hamilton.
Looked dangerous all day and should have had a few goals, hitting the cross bar and being denied by Mackenzie Arnold.
Kyra Cooney-Cross – 8/10
Was strong on the ball and was involved in Hamilton’s first and third goals. Plenty of fancy footwork too and strong on the ball.
Alexandra Huynh – 7.5/10
Looked solid for the most part. With Sam Staab next to her, these two are a tough nut to crack.
Ella Mastrantonio – 9/10
The Maestro conducted the Wanderers orchestra tonight and the three tenors Williams, Hamilton and O’Sullivan sang the house down. Busy as always in defence and attack. Everything good went through her.
Kristen Hamilton – 10/10
Ran hard all night and thoroughly deserved her hat trick.
Right place at the right time to score the first goal after nice link up play with Lynn Williams.
And again for the second goal was in the right place after a Williams flick on.
The third goal saw some fancy footwork before a smashing finish.
