Only arriving in the United States a few hours ago, Matildas defender Laura Alleway knows how important the match against the USA is for the team ahead of the World Cup.
The Matildas face the top-ranked USA in Colorado next Thursday (local time) as part of their preparation for France.
For Australia, they are coming off a successful Cup of Nations campaign, where they were undefeated against Argentina, Korea Republic and New Zealand.
"I think we made massive strides in terms of our positivity and now on ball performances," Alleway said.
"I think that we just want to grow from there, keep on aiming higher, to possess the ball and get as many passes as we can each match.
"We're really focusing on ourselves and I really liked that about Ante's style and I think it's going to be no different going into the US game."
The tournament on home soil allowed the Matildas to come together with Ante Milicic for the first time after his appointment as head coach in February.
There were many positives to take away from the Cup of Nations but also the side will look to continue working on the technical aspect of their game after Milicic brought in a different game style.
Facing the USA will give the Matildas the chance to play against one of the best in the world to see where they are at with their opening World Cup group stage match just two months away.
"We had three games at home, that was a really good stepping stone and I think that the teams were not as highly ranked as the US obviously being number one so it will just be another challenge," Alleway said.
"I think if we can go out there and perform the way we know we want to, it'll just be another feather in our cap and improving our confidence and keep the positivity rolling.
"It's going to be the type of team we're going to have to beat when we get to the World Cup, we're going to have to beat the best to be the best."
The USA hasn't defeated the Matildas in their last two meetings, which both came at the Tournament of Nations in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Recently the USA were unable to retain their SheBelieves Cup crown after draws against Japan and England, the eventual winners, with their only win coming over Brazil.
This all came after a loss to France in January however, the reigning World Cup Champions have never gone undefeated in a World Cup year.
For Alleway, it's not just a big year professionally but personally as well after her boyfriend Cameron popped the question in early March.
Despite her fiancé being American, the Victorian has re-assured that he will be supporting the Matildas.
"He's American but he's going for us to that's fine," she said.
The Matildas face the USA on Friday April 5 at 12:30pm AEDT. The match will be broadcast LIVE on FoxSports 503 from 12pm AEDT.
