THREE BEST GOALS

3. DEMI KOULIZAKIS’ SENIOR NIGHT GOAL

A night when seniors are honored for their multiple year commitment at Texas Tech it made sense for a senior to get on the scoresheet. Texas Tech was on the attack from a turnover from their opponent.

The ball was passed right to Demi Koulizakis inside the box, who one touched the ball into the left side netting. The goal would be the last in the game with Texas Tech winning 3-0 and gave Koulizakis her second goal on the season.

2. SAM KERR ENDS HER TWO GAME SCORING DROUGHT

It seems like there is an expectation on Kerr to find the back of the net in every game she plays in. Before tonight, Kerr has been without a goal since August 14th (two matches ago). It really was not that long ago but the Red Stars were feeling the impact of their star forward not netting goals, riding a three game losing streak.

Kerr ensured they would break up the streak with a goal in just the 7th minute of play. She received a through ball well outside of the box and then turned on her infamous speed leaving the defenders well behind.

Kerr got into the box and teed the ball up on her right foot sliding the ball into the lower left corner putting her Chicago Red Stars up 1-0.

1. SAM KERR’S BRACE GOAL

Kerr netted two goals in the game and she made sure to make them both impressive. Some very good team passing around the box allowed Kerr to get some space at the top of the box.

She took two touches setting up her right foot to send a low pacy ball into the net giving the Red Stars a 2-0 lead into halftime.

THREE BEST MOMENTS

3. CLAUDIA JENKINS CAREER HIGH SAVES

Claudia Jenkins and the La Salle Explorers took on Florida Gulf Coast this past week and it was a game to remember for Jenkins. The keeper had a career high 10 saves on the night and only allowed one goal in.

Typically when a team puts up that many shots on goal more than one goes in but Jenkins’ goal stopping night was enough to help her team secure the 2-1 win.

2. TEAGAN MICAH SETS ANOTHER RECORD

This year and quite frankly the past four years Teagan Micah has been dominant in goal for UCLA. She notches clean sheets and keeps UCLA in almost every game. Based off of Micah’s performances from last week she was awarded the Goalkeeper of the Week in her team’s conference, the Pac-12.

This was the eighth time she has received the award in her career setting a conference record. The season is not over yet and who knows how many more awards Micah may earn this year.

1. EMILY GIELNIK SUITS UP FOR FC BAYERN MUNICH

Often times with new signees it takes a while for them to get acclimated and that is especially true when they join after the season has started. Fans are used to waiting to be able to see new players on the pitch.

But for Emily Gielnik, just two weeks after it was announced that she had signed she was on the field for FC Bayern Munich. Not only did she get into the game, but she actually started the match and got 63 quality minutes before being subbed out.

THREE BEST PERFORMANCES

3. BEATTIE GOAD

The Stanford Cardinal have cruised out to a 5-0 record in the NCAA with only one game decided by one goal. So it is fair to say the team is scoring often having 26 goals in those five games. They only had one game this week and Beattie Goad got on the stat sheet twice in the 9-0 victory over San Francisco.

She assisted on the very first goal in the 2nd minute and then added her own goal in the 20th minute which put the team up 3-0. They play unselfishly having seven different players score in the game. If Stanford can keep it up Goad will be sure to add a few more goals and assists this season.

2. CLAUDIA JENKINS

When a player faces 11 shots on goal and only lets one of them they can easily put up a top performance of the week, Jenkins definitely earned the title this week. In games that finish as low as 2-1 sometimes teams will only have three-four quality looks on goal.

But for them to have ten shots on goal not go in had to be extremely frustrating to the opposing team and very gratifying to Jenkins and her team. If she keeps putting up statistics like this La Salle will be extremely difficult to defeat.

1. SAM KERR

The Chicago Red Stars are one of the top teams in the NWSL, but over the past few games they were not playing like it and their position in the standings was dropping. Kerr is a key, if not the key, to the Red Stars success.

So it only made sense that the Red Stars were able to get themselves a 3-0 win and now sit in third place, finding themselves there after two goals from Kerr. The win was against the Houston Dash, who sit in the bottom third of the league, but the Red Stars needed a confidence boost and Kerr made sure to deliver one.
