Domestically and internationally, 2012 was a big year for several players. Whether shining in the W-League in a champion side, tearing it up in overseas competitions, scoring spectacular goals against the Olympic champs or marking the world's best, several senior and U20s players made their mark in 2012.

Shipard, Catley recognised
Sally Shipard and Stephanie Catley were last night awarded the Australian Female Footballer of the Year and U20 Female Footballer of the Year awards at the Australian Football Awards. 
Imperious Japan defeat Australia
The Westfield Matildas went down 3-nil to a Japan team in peak form in Tokyo tonight.
It was Japan’s farewell game prior to the London Olympic games and the 20,000 plus crowd very vocal in their support of their Olympians.
