Melbourne Victory have signed seasoned W-League campaigner Casey Dumont to join Victorian Bethany Mason-Jones as their goalkeepers for the 2017/2018 season.
Dumont joins the Victory after spending the past couple of seasons in NSW with Sydney FC and most recently the Western Sydney Wanderers.
The 25 year old is another familiar face for Jeff Hopkins with the Victory coach spending a number of seasons with the championship winning keeper at Brisbane Roar.
“She’s someone I really rate, not only for her ability as a goalkeeper but she’s really tough,” W-League coach Jeff Hopkins said.
“She’s very talented and the type of keeper that will keep people on their toes."
“Physically she’s pretty imposing; she’s six-foot plus. She dominates her area and that’s something we really need.”
At 25 Dumont is an experienced goalkeeper with over 50 W-League appearances to her name as well as being selected for Australia for the 2010 Asian Cup and the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.
After a number of years of injury, the custodian - currently in the Matildas camp for their two friendlies against Brazil - is looking to work her way back into the Matildas set up.
“I’m hoping she can come in here and do really well for us. If that happens that will help get her in the window for the Matildas.”
While Hopkins has brought in Dumont, he has also rewarded local Beth Mason-Jones for her solid performances in Season 9.
Mason-Jones donned the gloves for a stretch when number 1 keeper Bianca Henninger was absent due to injury.
Her six appearances in her debut season demonstrated the 19 year old's growing competence and reliability.
“She came in last year and made massive strides forward,” Hopkins said.
“We actually bought an outfield player in to replace (Henninger) and put Beth in goals, because we were confident she could handle it.
“The games she came in for, she was in our best three players in all those games.
“She’s performing really well, working hard with her off-season program and she’s come back in really good nick.
Melbourne Victory will start their W-League season against Canberra United on 28 October 2017.
