2015 Player of the Year and Coach of the Year nominees announced

US midfielder and Player of the World Cup Carli Lloyd leads the 10-player shortlist for the 2015 Ballon D’Or.

Lloyd caught fire in the back end of the tournament finishing the tournament as joint top goal scorer, including a hattrick in the final against Japan.

German striker Celia Sasic, who took out the Canada 2015 Golden Boot and led club side FFC Frankfurt to the 2015 UEFA Women’s Champions League title, joins Lloyd, as does her countrywoman and Golden Glove winner Hope Solo.

World Champions United States heads Top 10 with 3 nominees while France has two with silver ball winner Amandine Henry and Eugenie Le Sommer. From the AFC, Japan captain Aya Miyama receives a nomination for leading Japan to a second straight World Cup final.

USA head coach Jill Ellis – who led the Americans to their third World title – leads the Coach of the Year field with medallists Norio Sasaki and England coach Mark Sampson also nominated.

Seattle Reign FC head coach Laura Harvey is among one of five club coaches to make the top 10.

The shortlists are nominated by a FIFA select committee and France Football and acknowledge accomplishments for the period 20 November 2014 to 20 November 2015

The next stage sees the captains and head coaches of the women’s national teams as well as media representatives (Melanie McLaughlin holds the Australian media vote) are then to vote on the award.

The shortlists will be reduced to the three finalists in early December 2015 with the winners announced on 11 January 2015.
