Matildas defender Laura Alleway is Melbourne City's latest signing ahead of the 2015/16 season.

Alleway joins Matildas captain and teammate Lisa De Vanna at new W-League club as they look to build for their inaugural season.

We are very excited to have Laura join Melbourne City FC in our inaugural season,” said City head coach Joe Montemurro .

“To have Laura on board helps establish the foundations of our defence as we continue to build a competitive squad this season.”

Alleway was a key member of Australia's defence at the recent 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup with the 25 year old starting all five of Australia's matches as the Matildas collected their first World Cup clean sheets.

Domestically Alleway was a member of Brisbane Roar's 2011 championship side and 2013's premiership team.

Alleway has also played in the English FA Women's Super League with the Lincoln Ladies in 2012.

“Laura is an extremely talented defender who has a lot of domestic and international experience.

The central defender is no stranger to Melbourne after spending a season with rivals Melbourne Victory from 2008 - 2010.

“It’s really exciting and hopefully we can come out with a big bang in the first season,” said Alleway of her signing with City.

“As the team builds, we are really looking forward to working together and hopefully create something special with City.”

Melbourne City are continuing to shake up the W-League by going on the front foot with recruiting.

As well as Alleway and De Vanna, goalkeeper Brianna Davey is rumoured to be in City's crosshairs while several international targets are being sounded out including former Victory championship player Jessica Fishlock.

Meanwhile for the Brisbane Roar it is another big loss with Alleway, Elise Kellond-Knight (Germany) and Sunny Franco (Sydney FC) all departing the side.

The W-League is set to commence on 17 October 2015.
