As every player will tell you, football is a team game and for every star acclaimed in articles there are those who quietly perform their team functions with little fanfare.

While the likes of Gill, Kerr and Foord have been the faces of Perth Glory's much documented run to a first W-League Grand Final, several players have had key roles in the record breaking season.

Marianna Tabain

Tabain is arguably one of the most underrated players in the W-League. A Glory foundation player, she has amassed over 75 W-League matches and scored 18 goals out on the wing.

Season after season the pacy 22 year old has been one of the most reliable players in the Glory attack and the arrival of Foord and Kerr has only sought to highlight just how good Tabain is.

Shannon May

Another foundation player, the quiet midfielder has been a jack of all trades for the Glory in previous campaigns. This season, after finding herself out of the starting line up early, May won her way backĀ into the midfieldĀ alongside captain Collette McCallum.

There is nothing fancy about May's play; it's all about doing the simple things. However, in performing her holding role well, she has allowed McCallum the freedom to do what she does best.

Sarah Carroll

As with all good Australian full backs (at least recently), Carroll is a former attacking midfielder converted into a trustworthy defender while providing the forward drive now required. Carroll took her game to the international level with strong performances for the Young Matildas and now locked down the role for Glory.

Unassuming off the pitch, Carroll has matured from a promising junior under the tutelage of Tim Hodgson at the Northern Redbacks to a key member of the Glory's premiership defence.

Mackenzie Arnold

Arnold's pre-season move back to Glory raised many an eyebrow, particularly when you consider her first stint in Perth ended in a club record 36 goals conceded.

The experience this time round has been very different with the Glory back unit finishing the season with the best defensive record with the custodian a large reason for that honour.

In the sweeper keeper role, the 20 year old has ensured that the Glory can press high and her distribution has launched many an attack.

All that is well and good but Arnold has also performed the key function of a goalkeeper well; she has stopped goals.
