Sunny Franco stars as Australia accounts for Singapore 19-0

Australia moved to the top of Group C with a ruthless 19-0 win over Singapore at the Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Brisbane Roar's Sunny Franco was the star of the striker scoring a double hattrick, while Jordan Baker also grabbed a hattrick on her way to four goals. Midfielders Olivia Price and Alex Chidiac picked up doubles while Brooke Goodrich, Beattie Goad, Emily Condon and Amy Harrison all found their way onto the scoresheet.

The win was the biggest by an Australia U20s side and the third biggest by an Australian women's team.

Head coach Ante Juric made wholesale changes to the XI that started against Hong Kong with only Isabel Hodgson retaining her position.

Goalkeeper Gabrielle Dal Busco (Perth Glory), midfielder Dylan Holmes (Adelaide United) and striker Jordan Baker (Western Sydney Wanderers) became the latest players to make their youth international debuts.

Despite the new look, the Young Matildas clicked instantly with Sunny Franco opening the scoring with barely 5 minutes gone.

From then on it was a procession of goals at regular intervals as Australia met little resistance from Singapore.

Franco, who ended the half with five goals, added a second on 10 minutes before Adelaide United midfielder Alex Chidiac hit the scoreboard in the 23rd minute and Wanderers striker Jordan Baker scoring her first youth international goal two minutes later.

Franco completed her hat-trick just prior to the half-hour mark before her Roar teammate Brooke Goodrich’s long range stunner saw the defender score her first goal in the 34th minute. Less than a minute later Franco was again in the action adding her fourth of the game.

On the shadows of half time Baker had a brace while the red hot Franco netted Australia's ninth and her fifth.

It was much of the same for Australia in the second half with Beattie Goad, who captained the side with Amy Harrison starting on the bench, kicked off the scoring five minutes after the restart.

Again the Young Matildas regularly breached the Singaporean defence with Franco netting a double hattrick before substituted on 60 minutes.

Singapore's plight was made worse when defender contributed to the scoreline with an own goal before Chidiac added at second and Baker claimed her hat-trick in the 72nd minute.

Emily Condon (with a second of the tournament), Olivia Price (with a double) and Amy Harrison completed the remarkable performance with late goals.

The big win saw Australia overtake Vietnam on Top of Group C leaving the Young Matildas in a good position heading into the final determining match, with a draw or win seeing Australia qualify for next year's finals.

Australia meets Vietnam on Sunday, 9 November 2014 for a spot in the 2015 AFC U19 Championships to be held in Nanjing, China.
